Divorcing the state!

When we were married, Alex and I dutifully (and unwittingly) signed our Marriage Certificate. I remember reading somewhere that this binds us to the state in some way. I would like to divorce the state so they are no part of our marriage.
Any ideas on how to go about this?
I’m thinking another paragraph in my affidavit but my wondering how to go about writing it.
